Taking some time out

Apr 15, 2022 – Apr 27, 2022

It has been a really busy start to the year, so I'm taking some time out to be with family and friends. I'll be back on Thursday 28th April and won't be answering calls during this period. I will check emails on an ad-hoc basis and may reply.

You can always call Marc at Marc's Independent BMW ...

This BMW M760Li arrived at the workshop this week. Absolutely stunning car with individual paint, with a stunning red leather interior.

For the nerds out there, the V12 engine produces over 600bhp, 0-60 in around 3.5 seconds, has a displacement of 6.6 litres assisted by twin turbos.

The owner n...

The issue with the BMW 750i (E65) handbrake actuator turned out to be stretched handbrake cables. They had stretched so much they were tangled in the mechanism and could only be freed by completely disassembling the handbrake actuator (EMF). All whilst lying headfirst in the boot!

After reasse...

After spending far too long in the boot of a BMW 750i (E65), an update on the electronic handbrake actuator (EMF) issue.

The "usual" broken gearing in the actuator didn't turn out to be the problem! In this video, Ian shows the gears that usually break. They were in good condition.

So you'll ha...

Had a customer with this BMW 750i (E65) with a faulty electronic handbrake in the workshop today. He'd made contact a few weeks ago for a diagnostic.

Using BMW ISTA software, we were able to advise that the electronic handbrake actuator (EMF), the motor which winds the handbrake cables in and o...

Original BMW parts are delivered daily to the workshop. USB sticks, wiring looms, control units, batteries, parking sensors … We are very grateful to BMW, all the parts staff and drivers who we have a fantastic working partnership with.

This BMW 320GT arrived with what at first glance appeared to be a faulty DSC/ABS unit but it soon became clear that this was not a "run of the mill" type complaint.

The DSC unit has more than one 12v power supply running to it. After an hour or so of diagnostics and testing with the multimeter, ...

A common question asked by customers is "How long do BMW software updates take?"

A rule of thumb is anywhere between 1 hour and "overnight". Many factors affect the duration, such as current software version, the systems fitting to the vehicle (more systems, more control units), the network bus...

Having contacted Ian and Marc at very short notice about an engine light on my mini, Ian managed to see me first thing the next morning, diagnosed the problem swiftly and advised on the repair and costs. The part was ordered and I was called in within a few days to drop my car off for the oxygen filter change. The service has been outstanding and we have since taken my partners car for its’ service. Again fantastic service, the job was done professionally and efficiently with very reasonable costs. We won’t hesitate to continue using Ian and Marc for all of our vehicle needs both workshop diagnostics and servicing at MIB. Completely reliable and trustworthy! Thanks both!

BMW & MINI Diagnostic Service

Using a laptop, specialist interfaces and BMW group specific software it is possible to diagnose issues on your BMW or MINI.  The advanced BMW & MINI software we use, provides full access to the systems on your vehicle - we often have customers referred to us from other motor trade partners who cannot accurately identify issues using their multi-vendor diagnostic systems.

Blue Meets White offers this service at a fraction of the price charges by BMW main dealers.

We offer both workshop and a mobile/visiting BMW & MINI diagnostics service.

BMW & MINI Mobile Diagnostic Service

If your vehicle is immobilised on the driveway, we offer a mobile BMW & MINI diagnostics service - providing an alternative to recovering the vehicle to a workshop. Perhaps you don't have a BMW or MINI specialist local to you and need more information to aid your decision making.

We always respond kindly to trade enquiries from garages and dealerships requiring access to our expert services.

BMW & MINI Software Updates

The average BMW or MINI has around 20 computers on-board.  Often referred to as control units or ECU's they control every aspect of your vehicle.  Without this software your vehicle would not operate.  Air to fuel ratio, engine timing, safety systems such as ABS and airbags, the heater control, audio system and i-Drive are all examples of control units with complex software controlling every aspect.

Most vehicles have never had a software update since the day they rolled off the production line.  Since, the manufacturers will have identified thousands of errors or improvements that the latest software will address.

Think about it, you service your vehicle regularly to ensure it remains in good working order - so why not update the software occasionally and take advantage of improvements and advances!

BMW & MINI Navigation Maps Updated

We offer this service and only use genuine software provided by BMW & MINI.  We never use "internet downloads" and offer proof of this to all customers using our services.

BMW & MINI Coding

Unlock the potential of your vehicle by unlocking hidden features or enabling features that are not, by default, enabled from the factory.

Examples include:
  • Folding wing mirrors on locking the vehicle
  • Disabling the boot unlock button on the key remote
  • Unlocking of doors on removal of the ignition key / turning off the ignition
  • Enable follow-me-home lighting
  • Bleep on locking the vehicle if one or more doors are not properly closed

If your BMW head unit (i-Drive) is constantly rebooting or cycling

We offer a workshop solution to fixing this common software issue.  No fix, no fee.

Park Distance Control (PDC) Issues

If you have issues with parking sensors on your BMW or MINI, we diagnose and repair them.

SOS Call System Failure

We can repair this message by changing the TCB battery on your BMW or MINI at a fraction of the cost of BMW main dealer.

"Transmission. Secure vehicle with parking brake when stationary" or "Secure vehicle against rolling"

If you have a BMW or MINI with an automatic gearbox, this issue may affect your vehicle.  No matter what you do, this message won't go away.  It is caused by the failure of a small spring in the gear selector. We keep the springs in stock and can repair at a fraction of the cost of BMW main dealer and warranty all work for 12-months.
